Steve at the Florida Folk Festival circa 2002
The old and the new, the down 'n dirty and the sublime ...that's Steve Sternberg's eclectic blend of piano music. He will capture your musical heart and soul with his energetic, playful and moving songs. In bands and as a solo artist Sternberg has been entertaining audiences since 1975. He is loved for his versatility and for his upbeat, informative rapport with his listeners. Sternberg was an Artist-in-the-Schools performer at public schools and community colleges throughout North Florida and the Panhandle between 1989 and 2004. By popular demand Steve was a regular performer from 1999-2005 at the Florida Folk Festival, the nation's largest and oldest folk fest. He has also played in other festivals, events, clubs and at private parties throughout the country both as a soloist and as a member of pop, rock, blues, latin and jazz bands. Steve's first CD, Honky Tonk Soulstice was released in 1997.
In 2002 Sternberg won an award in the statewide Will Mclean Foundation's Best New Florida Song Contest for "Apalachicola Blues". That song and his "Forgotten Coast Blues" are part of the soundtrack for the documentary "Apalachicola, Our Town", which aired on WFSU-TV in 2004 in the Tallahassee/Florida panhandle area. Those two songs plus two other originals comprise Sternberg's 2nd cd "Apalachicola Blues." Steve's 3rd CD, Shout for Joy, was released in September of 2005. In 2011 and 2012 Sternberg provided live background piano music at Tallahassee's Florida Museum of Natural History for the showing of the 1928 silent film "The Flying Ace." His performance was half the movie experience! Steve allowed time for more creativity over the years, and his 4th CD of original compositions, Hidden Jewels, was released in June of 2016. Steve performed his 3-part educational-music series "American Jewish Composers" at Tallahassee's Temple Israel during the pandemic over Facebook Live in 2020 and in front of a live audience in 2021.
From March 1990 until the present Steve has been performing at retirement centers and nursing facilities. Sternberg teaches piano, saxophone and harmonica from his home studio in Tallahassee.
